The ASVAB Is Not That Difficult

If you are considering a career with the United States Armed Services, then you probably know that you have to take the military version of an entrance exam called the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB for short. Your friends have probably told you that this is a very difficult test and scared you into thinking you will not be able to pass. In this article, I will show you not only how this exam can actually be quite easy but even if you don’t know all the information, you still have a very high chance of passing.

The ASVAB is an exam that tests you on the various topics that you have learned throughout high school. This includes general science, mathematical information, reading comprehension, verbal knowledge and some other topics.

Even though there are all these different subjects on the exam, in order to qualify for your branch of choice, they only look at the AFQT or Armed Forces Qualifying Test. The AFQT looks only at the scores you received on your general science, mathematical knowledge, arithmetic reasoning and paragraph comprehension sections. That means even if you know nothing about machines or cars, you still have a decent chance of getting into the military.

The AFQT is graded on a scale from zero to 99 and even though some of the questions may be quite difficult, don’t feel that this is not something you can achieve. Even though the maximum potential score is 99, you can get into most branches by scoring just a 32 or 50. A 50 out of a 99 means that you only have to get approximately half of the questions correct.

So as you were studying and you feel that some of the information is just overwhelming for you or beyond your academic capability, don’t worry about it. As long as you give yourself a solid foundation, you should be able to score at least high enough to get into the branch of your choice.

Now obviously depending on the job you want, you might have to score higher but some people are satisfied just scoring well enough to get into the branch of choice and then given any job within that branch.

Knowing that you don’t have to get everything correct and knowing what the information is that you have to study for your exam, simply go out, take a practice test and see how you stand. You may surprise yourself and actually score well enough so that you only need a little bit of study to prepare for your actual exam.
