Becoming a meaningful, effective leader, means, proceeding forward, with the ability, insights, attitude, and self – confidence, to recognize, and realize, one can’t lead, unless/ until, he realizes, leading is dependent upon, initially, becoming a quality, empathetic human being! In fact, one must consider, leading is a CHAPTER (albeit, perhaps an important one) of one’s overall existence, and life! How can anyone, make a difference for the better, for his organization, and stakeholders, unless/ until, he gives himself a true, check – up, from the neck – up, and addresses, how to make himself, the best person, he can? With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means and represents, and why, it’s such an important aspect and consideration, of effective, meaningful leadership.
1. Character; create; coordinate: Leaders must possess a true, quality of character, where they put the interests of others, ahead of their personal/ political agenda, and/ or, self – interest! Leading must focus on, and emphasize, what one wants to create, and coordinate, and whether, his personal vision, aligns, with making the changes, the group needs, and requires!
2. Healing; head/ heart: If one’s emphasis, and priority, is not, focused on healing, he shouldn’t become a leader! He needs to use, the finest aspects of one’s emotional, as well as logical components, in a head/ heart balance!
3. Attitude; aptitude; attention; articulate: It takes a combination of a real, positive, can – do, attitude, combined with a relevant, well – developed, aptitude, and skill – set, to lead, effectively! This must direct one’s attention, to the best paths, to choose, and he must be ready, willing, and able, to articulate an inspiring, motivating message, to those, he serves and represents!
4. Principles; priorities; perceptions; planning: The one area, where compromise, must never be sought, relates to one’s principles! He must proceed, with an understanding of constituent’s perceptions, and prioritize, his stakeholders, and the group, before his own! Only, when this leads to effective leadership planning, and preparation, for the immediate, as well as longer – term ramifications, etc, does he earn the right, to be considered, a leader!
5. Timely; time – tested; trust; truthful; trends: Leading means, constantly, evolving, and learning, so quality trends, might be merged, into his overall strategic and action plans! However, he must be, consistently, truthful, in order to earn, and deserve, the trust of others! As well as trends, he must, also, proceed, using, time – tested techniques, and concepts, to seek a difference, for the better! Never procrastinate, but also proceed, with well – considered, timely action!
6. Empathy; emphasis; endurance; excellence: You must prioritize, effectively listening, and learning, so you can proceed, with the utmost degree of genuine empathy! This must direct his emphasis, and, be combined with the endurance and persistence, to go – on, when others quit! Never accept good – enough, but always depend, the utmost degree of personal excellence!
7. Relevant; reliable; responsive/ responsible: The buck stops here. A real leader assumes personal responsibility, and is responsible, to both, the organization, as well as present and future stakeholders! He must be reliable, while proceeding, with relevant actions, focused on quality, etc!
Don’t forget, leading is important, but, merely, a CHAPTER of one’s life! Will you be, up – to, the task?
