Career Change and Your Dream Job! Make It Great in 2008!

So, it is official, everyone is talking about the fact that the U.S. economy has taken a “down turn” and we are either in a “recession” or very close to one. Some people may think that this means that they are automatically “in trouble” with their careers. Some people already may feel their head is on the “chopping block” and they could lose their job. Whatever your career situation, it is really important to not get caught up in the ‘stinking thinking’ mentality. Start focusing on what you want in your career vs. what you do not want.

I heard on the radio, recently, that a reporter who worked for the Wall Street Journal, surveyed its viewers and asked the question “What would your dream job look like?” He got a very interesting response. For the most part, the majority of the people surveyed, said they would be doing what they were currently doing in their career, as their “dream job”, but some shifts or changes would need to be made, to make it a real “dream job.”

That response was very interesting. So, what would you need to do to shift certain things in your current position to make it your true “dream job?” I suggest you sit down and write these things down and see what you can do to shift them. It may really be worth it for you!

If you are thinking, I am not one of “those people”, my current career is definitely not my “dream” in anyway, sense or form! Then I suggest that you ask yourself: “What do I need to do to shift my career?”

Lots of people will be in the “recession mentality” and taking less time to look at their career changes, because they will have the mentality, “Oh, I will just wait and see what is going to happen, there is too much going on right now, besides, we are in a ‘recession’ nobody is looking to hire!” If you are one who is thinking that way, I suggest that you shift that thinking immediately. Many who think this way are losing opportunities, so if you are one who does not have that attitude, there are even more opportunities for career change out there for you!

“We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.”

Many companies will have “open positions”. So there are plenty of opportunities to interview for a new position during a “recession.” I strongly suggest that if you have not gotten your resume and cover letter in good shape, that you get that done right away. I can not emphasize how critical it is for you to be successful in your career change by having a resume and cover letter that will blow people’s socks off! Resumes and cover letters are what get your foot in the door for interviews. So, if your resume and cover letter are not what you think of as “stellar”, I, the “shift coach” suggest that you do something about it!

It is also a good time to “hone in” and practice your interview skills. So many people who are looking for jobs, do not have a clue about getting into “interview shape.” Interviewing is a game that you have to master, to win at. Many people do not realize that. You can make it fun, if you shift your perspective. I can use my “Shift Assist” coaching techniques and help you drastically improve your interview skills and help you shine in your interviews, too.
